About us – I Gelsi
In 1998 Paolo and Enza Carlini fell in love with a large farmhouse set on 14 acres of land in a beautiful position above the 13th century town of Figline Valdarno in the Tuscan countryside. They slowly and carefully restored the house preserving the original character and charm. They decided to name the place after the numerous Mulberry trees that surround the house.
Enza is a midwife who moved to Florence from the United Kingdom in the late 1980s, her husband Paolo is a Florentine photographer, they live in one wing of the main house with their two children. Enza and Paolo will do all they can to ensure that your stay at “I Gelsi” will be memorable and very enjoyable.
I Gelsi is a typical Tuscan country house carefully restored over the last few years to the highest standards. The house is located in a beautiful part of Tuscany bordering the famous Chianti area and just a few miles from the main highway from Milan to Rome. We are located in a central position making it a convenient base to visit towns of great importance in the region: Florence (25km), Siena (50km), Arezzo (54km), Volterra (98km), San Gimignano (75km), Castellina in Chianti (38km), Certaldo (65km) and many other beautiful medieval Tuscan villages.
I Gelsi is a fabulous alternative to hotels in Florence, you will be able to mix the culture and history of our towns and relax in the warmth of our countryside. If one day you would like to take a break you will always be welcome to just relax and sip a glass of Tuscan wine by the pool or in the shade of an olive or mulberry tree. The surrounding countryside is also great for cycling, hiking and horse riding.
I Gelsi is just 3km from the historical centre of Figline Valdarno, in the town you will be able to find shops, boutiques, chemists, banks, pubs, supermarkets and restaurants. Trains to Florence Central Station (Santa Maria Novella) depart from Figline Valdarno every half hour with a travel time of less than twenty minutes. Access to the A1 Motorway is just 10km from the house.
